mod 13 and 14 video blog

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
The Lowdown on Lowbrow: West Coast Pop Art
Key concepts i learned from watching this video The Lowdown on Lowbrow: West Coast Pop Art, was that Lowbrow art meant a "reactionary to highbrow culture". The dictionary definition is "a person regarded as uncultivated and lacking in taste". Another key concept i learned was that many people didnt accept Lowbrow and that the unaccepted artist created their own art scene after being shut out from museums and galleries. Displaying Modern Art: The Tate Approach
Key concepts i learned from this video was that art in the musuem MOMA from 1929 to present was displayed primarily in chronological order. Another key concept i learned was that alot of artists that are  abstract try to make paintings that are not dependent on figuration. They more want to convey emotions, aesthetic effects, and social vision.Bones of Contention: Native American Archaeology
key concepts i learned from this video were how the burial mounds were thought to be too civilized to have been built by Native Americans, which i found to be quite insulting and mean. Another key concepy i learned was that  anthropologists differ on whether or not the remain of the bones that are found should be returned to their ancestors. An Acquiring Mind: Philippe de Montebello and The Metropolitan he key concepts i learned in this video were that de Montebello guided the acquisition of more than 84,000 works of art. Also another key concept was that in 1870 the musuem opened with 174 european artsm of work.

2. Do the videos relate to the creation of your Art Exhibition project? If yes, explain how. If no, explain why not.
Yes they do because for the art exhibition project we were asked how the exhibts were set up and in the videos it explains how and why in certain musuems the art works is set up the way they are. The videos go into further detail about the set up, the artists, and the history behind it.

3. What is your opinion of the films? Do they add depth to understanding of the art concepts you practiced while creating your curation project?
My opinion of the films is that i thought they were great. At first i didnt quite understand why the questions were being asked during our art project on why the exhibits were set up the way they were or how they were set up but from watching the videos it helped explain that and gave further insight on the subject matter.
