1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
I selected the video "Abstract Expressionism and Pop: Art of the ’50s and ’60s" because i love the 50s and 60s and everything that has to do with it. I thought this particular video would be very interesting to me. I also chose the video "Hockney on Photography" because i think the development of photography is fascinating and i wanted to learn more about it.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned
For the video "Hockney on Photography" the key concepts i learned were that the camera wasn't invented in the 19th century only the chemical process for it was. Another key concept is how Hockney explored different ways of space and reverse perspective through camera. In the other video "Abstract Expressionism and Pop: Art of the ’50s and ’60s" key concepts i learned were that abstract expressionism emerged from American art and European avantgarde art. Another key concept is that in the c&os piece of art kines uses shape to bring about emotions.
3.How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos relate to the text because in the text we learn about the "isms" in art with expressionism being one of them. We also learn about the development and growth of photography. In the videos it teaches you further knowledge of these subjects.
4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
My opinion of films is that i found them to be interesting but the one on photography i found to be a bit confusing. I didn't understand what David Hockney was saying when he talked about discovering Polaroid. Other than that i enjoyed the videos. They gave better understanding of what we read in the text.
