1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
The Lowdown on Lowbrow: West Coast Pop Art
Key concepts i learned from watching this video The Lowdown on Lowbrow: West Coast Pop Art, was that Lowbrow art meant a "reactionary to highbrow culture". The dictionary definition is "a person regarded as uncultivated and lacking in taste". Another key concept i learned was that many people didnt accept Lowbrow and that the unaccepted artist created their own art scene after being shut out from museums and galleries. Displaying Modern Art: The Tate Approach
Key concepts i learned from this video was that art in the musuem MOMA from 1929 to present was displayed primarily in chronological order. Another key concept i learned was that alot of artists that are abstract try to make paintings that are not dependent on figuration. They more want to convey emotions, aesthetic effects, and social vision.Bones of Contention: Native American Archaeology
key concepts i learned from this video were how the burial mounds were thought to be too civilized to have been built by Native Americans, which i found to be quite insulting and mean. Another key concepy i learned was that anthropologists differ on whether or not the remain of the bones that are found should be returned to their ancestors. An Acquiring Mind: Philippe de Montebello and The Metropolitan he key concepts i learned in this video were that de Montebello guided the acquisition of more than 84,000 works of art. Also another key concept was that in 1870 the musuem opened with 174 european artsm of work.
2. Do the videos relate to the creation of your Art Exhibition project? If yes, explain how. If no, explain why not.
Yes they do because for the art exhibition project we were asked how the exhibts were set up and in the videos it explains how and why in certain musuems the art works is set up the way they are. The videos go into further detail about the set up, the artists, and the history behind it.
3. What is your opinion of the films? Do they add depth to understanding of the art concepts you practiced while creating your curation project?
My opinion of the films is that i thought they were great. At first i didnt quite understand why the questions were being asked during our art project on why the exhibits were set up the way they were or how they were set up but from watching the videos it helped explain that and gave further insight on the subject matter.

mod 12 video blog
1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
I selected the video "Abstract Expressionism and Pop: Art of the ’50s and ’60s" because i love the 50s and 60s and everything that has to do with it. I thought this particular video would be very interesting to me. I also chose the video "Hockney on Photography" because i think the development of photography is fascinating and i wanted to learn more about it.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned
For the video "Hockney on Photography" the key concepts i learned were that the camera wasn't invented in the 19th century only the chemical process for it was. Another key concept is how Hockney explored different ways of space and reverse perspective through camera. In the other video "Abstract Expressionism and Pop: Art of the ’50s and ’60s" key concepts i learned were that abstract expressionism emerged from American art and European avantgarde art. Another key concept is that in the c&os piece of art kines uses shape to bring about emotions.
3.How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos relate to the text because in the text we learn about the "isms" in art with expressionism being one of them. We also learn about the development and growth of photography. In the videos it teaches you further knowledge of these subjects.
4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
My opinion of films is that i found them to be interesting but the one on photography i found to be a bit confusing. I didn't understand what David Hockney was saying when he talked about discovering Polaroid. Other than that i enjoyed the videos. They gave better understanding of what we read in the text.

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
"A Sunday on La Grande Jatte, 1884" and "Expressionism" are the two videos i chose because a Sunday on la grande jatte sounded very elegant and pretty so i wanted to see what this video was about. I chose Expressionism because i read a little bit about it in the art book and i wanted to further my knowledge on the subject.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
A Sunday on La Grande Jatte, 1884: For this video the key concepts are Georges Seurat was the artist who painted la grande jatte. The place its self, la grande latte was a place where prostitutes went to do their job and where couples went to make love by the river. Another key concept i learned was the monkey in the painting was actually added later on to the painting la grande jatte. Many people believe that this monkey symbolizing something. In the video "Expressionism", the key concepts i learned was that expressionism branched out from Fauvism and that it emphasized the emotion in color. Another key concept that i learned was that the painting "ashes" by Edward Munch that depicted a modern day Adam and eve while they fell from their grace, was originally named "after the fall".
3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos relate to the readings in the text because in the text it talks about Expressionism and where and how it branched out from Fauvism. It explains in detail different aspects of expressionism and the different artists and their paintings that emerged from it. The video just gives you more of a visual learning to it. The painting La grande jatte wasn't mentioned in the text but the type of art and the period this painting emerged from is talked about in and throughout the text.
4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
My opinion of the films was that i really enjoyed the one about La grande jatte. It was so surprising to know that the women standing alone in the painting was prostitutes. I found that to be very daring and different than the paintings we are used to learning about. The video on expressionism was okay. I felt it could have been a little bit more interesting and could have went into more detail on the artworks. Overall, i enjoyed the videos and learned alot from each one.

Art Gallery vist 2
For this art Gallery project i visited The Metropolitan Museum of Art located 1000 5th ave. Manhattan, NY. This museum has really changed since the last time I've been there and overall i had a fun time during my visit. The title of the exhibition was called "After Photoshop: Manipulated Photography in the Digital Age". The theme of the exhibition was Photography. For this visit i decided to sketch the Art Photography from the exhibition due to issues with my camera but some of the artwork from the exhibition is posted on the museums website.

1. What type of lighting is used?
The lighting used for his specific exhibit was the basic lighting used throughout most of the museum.
2. What colors are used on the walls?
The colors used on the walls was a basic white. I think they decided to use white because they just wanted the exhibit to really make the different photograpgy displayed stand out without any distractions.
3. What materials are used in the interior architecture of the space?
Most of the paintings are displayed on the wall but certain ones such as "110 junction", "When I grow up I want to be a cooker", and "carnival" were either hanging from the ceiling by something of on wooden stands. Other than that the exhibit was very basic.
4. How is the movement of the viewer through the gallery space?
The space was wide and narrow so someone who was viewing the exhibit could move around freely even if there was alot of people viewing the exhibit as well.
These are the three sketches i drew from the gallery: ( I really cant draw, but I tried)
Title: Warhead 1
Artist: Nancy Burson
Date: 1982
In the actual photograph its a picture of a white older male with dark hair and very bushy eyebrows. He has an angry disgusted look on his face. The work is very realistic because its capturing an emotion displayed on a mans face. The background of the picture is pitch black so that the only thing you notice is this man in the photo. Elements in this photo that are emphasized are value and line. Principles used in this photo are balance and emphasis.
Title: Picture of Jeen Norris old Farm in Oklahoma, hanging in the Norris Living Room
Artist: Debbie Grossman
Date: 2010
In this photograph it is a silverware plate hung up on a wall. Through the plate you see a reflection of a small family house with a white picket fence, grass, and a bunch of trees and bushes. The plate seems very expensive, like something rich people would use living in a mansion. It seemed like this piece of art was trying to make a transition by using something "rich" and reflecting something "average" through it. Elements used in this picture are shape and space. Principles that used are proportion.
Title: Untitled
Artist: Flip Dujardin
Date: 2009 Printed 2011
In this photo it looked like what appeared to be a tall building shaped like and upside down L. The building was in an open grassy space with bushes behind it. The building was a silver color so I'm guessing the building in the actual picture was made out of material resembling that color. The photo was taken on a bright sunny day. In the photo the element displayed are space, texture, shape, and line. Principles used are balance and emphasis.
1. How are the artworks organized?
The artworks were organized very neatly. Each photo had a similar spacious distance to the other photo. Most were hung up on a wall, others were displayed in different places on the floor.
2. How are the artworks similar?
The artworks are similar because they are all photos.
3. How are the artworks different?
The artworks are different because some capture photos of just people, some capture photos of things or places. Some are photos that take place years ago while others are present,
4. How are the artworks framed?
Some are in glass. Other photos have a white rim around the border.
5. How are the artworks identified and labeled?
They are identified and labeled by title date and artist with a small background on the picture next to the information about the photos.
6. What is the proximity of the artwork to each other?
The proximity of the works of art is in a good distance between each other. Its not displayed in any type of order such as date, place, or artist.

mod 10 art masks
This mask was carved for the king of Benin. He never wore it around his face, only around his neck or on his hip. I chose this mask because it really stood out to me. It looked like the face of an actual person. The way it was carved really resembled the characteristics of an african mans face. The elements are shape and line. The principles are proportion and emphasis.
I chose this mask because i liked the expression. I thought it was cool how the carver of this mask made it look like a surprised face. The principles are rythme and proportion. The elements are shape and value.
I chose this mask because it was and animal and a human at the same time which i thought was cool. I looked really interesting to me, It was a face with tiger like stripes. Elements in this mask is line and value. Principles for this mask would be pattern and movement.
I used the elements of texture and color and i used the principles of balance. Creating these mask were fun.im not really a good artist so i tried my best. The one in the middle is the finished product.

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above
The reason why i selected the two videos "Buddhism" and "Hinduism" was because after reading about these two religions in the text book, i wanted to further my knowledge on the two subjects. I found these two topics to be very interesting while reading about it in the art book.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
For the Buddhism video, key concepts i learned was that after Buddha's death the religion split into Hinayana and mahanya. What i also learned was that in Carmel new york there is an area of buildings called chuang yen monastery that is dedicated to the Buddhism religion. For the Hinduism video the key concepts i learned was about the Hindu gods and goddesses which i found pretty interesting. I learned that it was often compared to christian/catholic saints. What i found most interesting was how in the Hindu religion they depict some of the gods in half human form.
3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos relate to the text because in the text that we were told to read it talks about these two religions, how they originated, and what the religions are really about.
4.What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
My opinion of the films was that they were very interesting and included alot of detail. I enjoyed learning more about these two religions and seeing it in visual form. They add dept to understanding the readings and art concepts because the videos make learning about it more pleasant. If your a visual learning then it can help you way more.
