mod 9 exploring line

1. What was it like using your hand as subject matter for a drawing?
It was fun using my hand as a subject matter. It was interesting to see how my drawing would come out when i used my hand that wasnt dominant.

2. What media did you select - pencil or charcoal? Why?
I selected pencil because i think pencil looks better when you do quick sketches.

3. How did it feel to create a drawing with your non-dominant hand?
It felt alittle weird only because  my hand was a bit shaky but ive tried to use my hand that wasnt dominant before so it was nothing really new to me. It was more so a fun challenge.

4. Compare and contrast your final drawings. Do you think they are successful studies?
I think that they are successful. My drawing with my dominant hand came out good and my second drawing with my hand that wasnt dominant came out ok.

5. Would you consider using your non-dominant hand to create artwork in the future?
No i wouldnt because i dont draw good with that hand. Maybe if i had a bit more practice

mod 9 video blog

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
I selected the videos The Night Watch (Rembrandt) and Leonardo da Vinci: The Mind of the Renaissance because the two titles really stuck out to me. mod 8 video review

1. Explain why you selected each of the three videos you choose from the selection listed above.
I selected these three videos; Beyond the Classical: Byzantine and Later Greek Art, More Human Than Human, and Cataclysm: The Black Death Visits Tuscany because some of these topic i read in the book and i wanted to further my knowledge on the topic because it sounded interesting to me.

2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
Beyond the Classical: Byzantine and Later Greek Art, the key concepts i learned from this video was about the heliocentric modernism. During this period the art evolved. What i found interesting was when the lady was talking about the painting and how the artist combined so many things in on painting. The key concepts i learned in Cataclysm: The Black Death Visits Tuscany was about the black plague. I learned how the plague was carried out from china all the way to Europe which is something i did not know. Also i learned that the plague killed so many people and lasted for such a long time which is something that was new to me.

3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
These videos relate to the readings in the text because in the text we also learned about Byzantine and the period of Greek art. We also learned about the realism of art which is also mentioned in these videos.

4.What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
My opinion of the film was that i found the three that i watched to be very interesting. It furthered my knowledge more from the topics that were in the text. I think it made the concepts of art  that we learned about in the two chapters more clearer and it was cool to get a visual understanding of it.

mod 7 video review

From the video ancient architecture and technology, Key concepts that i learned from watching this video was about the seven hills of Rome. It was interesting how it the hills of Rome were protected through the servian wall. The monuments, parks, and buildings that surrounded the seven walls were beautiful as well. In the Architecture is art video i learned how architecture can create emotion. I thought it was interesting how some architects build certain things to trigger human emotions. In the Last call for planet earth video what i learned was that there were cities where 75 percent of carbon originated. Also what i learned was that architectural designs managed energy through integrated systems under the floor heating, and passive solar energy. These videos relate to the readings in the text be as in the text we also read about architecture and the different concepts of it. The videos just give you a more visual effect and explain what architecture is all about more thoroughly. My opinion about the videos is that they were all great. Very informative and interesting. I would say my favorite video is the last call for planet earth video. I found this video to be the most effective as far as learning something cool and of importance at the same time.

mod 6 art making installation

What is installation art?

Installation art is art thats diverese and takes over and defines the space. To achive this is totally up to the visyla artist.  Installation art is something that surrounds you. Its different its big and its meaningful.

What materials are used installation art?

materials that are used in installation art is a broad variety of materiald used in everyday life. You can use whatever you want for installation art its up to you.

Why make installation art?

Artists make installation art to express themselves and to create a theme, Installation art gives off the persona of a real life moment. Installation art usually reflects scenery.

Which artist/installation did I find most interesting?

the installation that i found most interesting was the one in the videowith the yellow backround and the big oka dots all over it, I found the art to be very fun and childish. It had a youthful adventorous view to it.

Below is my creation of installation art:

The theme that i wanted to explore in my installation was politics and social order. You may not see it from my installation but the image i was trying to set was the three chairs butting heads which symbolizes each side of politics. Democratic, republican, and everything in between. The tall vase was suppose to symbolize God. I used something taller to look as if it was overpowering everything else. Materials i used was things from around my house. Three chairs and a tall vase with sticks inside.

mod 6 video review

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned

Through the eyes of the sculptor:

Some of the key concepts i learned while watching this video is when they walked into the carving shop that was made from lime stones. It was interesting how it stayed 12 degrees Celsius throughout the year. I also learned how every stone has a different smell. I also thought it was interesting how the sculptor had to use feelings to carve life back into the shape.

 Glass and ceramics

What i found interesting was the the process on how glass was made. When i found out that glass was made from sand but how the properties were so much more different the video intrigued me even more. What i also found interesting was how soda could be used as one of the components for making glass.

Installation art

The invisible art really interested me. At first i thought it was going to be some kind of tricky way to create art but when i learned it had to do with music it really captured my attention. I like how it was described as the true essence of sound that forces the listener to interact with it.

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

The videos relate to the readings in the text because there were certain parts in the text about glass, stained glass, different types of sculptors and the creation they built. The videos went into further detail about the topics in the text like explaining things sculptors use to create their work or the process in how glass is made.

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the topics: Sculpture, Installation, and Craft?

I really enjoyed all three films especially the one on how glass is made. I think the videos gave a clearer more visual understanding of the topics we learned about in the text. It helped me understand more on the life and thoughts of a sculptor and the way they see art. It also gave a clear tutorial on how to create glass and different substitutes on what to use.
